Membership Requirements

Please contact the Membership Chairman (Nancy Weems).

Please attend at least one meeting as our guest. Final approval cannot be given until the teacher has visited one meeting.

The Membership Chairman will send our application form to be completed with professional background information. It should be returned with three letters of recommendation, at least two of which must be from Forum members.

Upon receipt, a mutually agreeable date will be set for an audition. Three students must be presented, each playing one piece (preferably by memory). A video tape of this audition is also acceptable in place of a live audition. This requirement may be waived for college teachers.

If the Board votes favorably on the students, it will recommend acceptance at the next general meeting. A favorable vote by two-thirds of the members present is required for membership.

Forum fees should then be paid to our treasurer, and state and national dues may be paid either through Forum or another Texas music teacher's association.

Recommended Procedures of Professionalism

Upon accepting a student who has approached you for lessons, it is recommended that one notify the former teacher when there is one by phone or letter.

Teachers should be professional in the acceptance and release of a student.

Credit should be given to coaches and other teachers who have assisted in the training of a student.

Students may not be judged by anyone who has coached them.

Any complaints concerning an event should be written, signed and given to the chairman of that event and to the president of Forum.
