The annual LEVI STARK LECTURE AND PERFORMANCE SERIES is in honor and in memory of Levi Stark, distinguished member and founder of Forum Music
Teacbers' Association.
The LOUISE CHRISTENSEN FORUM RECITALS are designed to promote the art of piano performance. The Wee Folks Recitals are geared toward younger performers, and the Forum Recitals are open to all students in fifth grade and above. These recitals are in honor and in memory of Louise Christensen, beloved member of Forum Music Teachers' Association.

FORUM AUDITIONS
Forum Auditions is an event for solo performance by students at six different levels, to be judged individually on a number basis 1 + - 4. Students perform in a small group situation. It includes repertoire guidelines and technical requirements. Forum Auditions create a highly motivating performance situation for the student. The student receives an objective critique of his or her playing by professional judges from around the state. The student works to earn he highest rating possible in order to earn medals and trophies – thus raising performance standards. Auditions are usually held in December.

FORUM FESTIVITIES
This is a festival designed to include all students of Forum members, beginner through advanced. It is planned to be a positive experience for the students, enabling each to gain experience in a judged performance. Medals are given for Superior ratings, and ribbons are given for Excellent and Good.

FORUM YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION
This Competition is for students ages eight through eighteen. Students from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma will be eligible for participation. Specific music will be designated for each grade level. Judges will give a critique for each student and will rank the students. Winners will be awarded first, second, third, or fourth place; and trophies will be presented. Honorable Mention may also be awarded. There are monetary awards.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
These Scholarship Contests include the Senior Awards and the Thelma Hearn Memorial Scholarship Awards. Juniors or Seniors perform and are judged on performance. Monetary awards are given.

STUDENT AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP
Student Affiliate (SA) is a program of the Texas Music Teachers Association inaugurated to provide for the student a wider musical experience than is usually afforded in private music study, with recognition for achievement in various phases of musical education and activity.
Students must participate in the local Association (Forum Music Teachers Association) contests or judging before progressing to the District or State competition.
Each year the activities of Student Affiliate culminate at the TMTA convention. Students from all over Texas meet to participate in the many inspiring facets of Student Affiliate. Throughout the entire convention, the student members have opportunities to attend varied programs which will be of interest to them and to visit excellent music exhibits.

THEORY TEST
The theory test is taken at the student’s school grade level, Grades 1 – 12. Students who score 90 or above are awarded medals. This written exam covers a broad range of theory: note reading, note writing, scale and chord structure, key signatures, transposition, part writing, rhythm, etc. Ear training is included. The theory test is a prerequisite for entries in the Performance Contest, Ensemble, Composition Contest, and Chamber Music.

PERFORMANCE CONTEST
The Performance Contest is an advanced competition that is designed to encourage excellence in performance. There are Instrumental and Piano Solo categories in grades seven through post 12th. There are Concerto categories for grades 9 – 12 in piano. Vocal and Organ categories include grades 9 through post 12th. At the local level, students receive critiques by judges, and winners in each category are chosen to progress to the State Semi-Finals. Ten winners in each category are chosen at the State Semi-Finals Competition to compete at the State Finals Performance Contest. State Winners receive cash awards and trophies.

ENSEMBLE
Students in grades one through eight may participate in the Texas / American program and perform compositions by Texas or American composers. Students in grades nine through Post Twelfth are eligible to participate on the High School Program. The ensemble consists of ten pianos with one or two students at each piano. The number of ensembles sent to State are determined by the Student Affiliate membership. Ensemble participants are chosen by a judge at auditions in February.

ORIGINAL COMPOSITION CONTEST
An original composition written by a student will be judged and performed locally before being submitted to the State contest. This contest, which is judged by divisions according to the student’s grade levels, is designed to encourage musical creativity and good compositional techniques. The student must pass the grade level theory test to be eligible to participate. Winners perform on a recital at the TMTA State convention in June. This is a
local division contest with local division awards. Emma Jean Schreiber had a keen interest in composition, and this award is in her honor and in her memory.

PUBLICATION CONTEST
The papers are judged at the local level in January before being submitted to the State contest. This Student Affiliate activity is for grades 1 – post 12th. Its purpose is to promote excellence in music research and publication. State winning articles will be published in booklet form and will appear in the Student Affiliate Newsletter which is sent statewide to all Student Affiliate teachers. Winning articles may be chosen to be included in the World of Music books.

WORLD OF MUSIC
The World of Music test, which is held each year in March, covers music history, theory, listening examples, and analysis skills. It correlates directly with repertoire and music theory studies. Students are tested by grade level and can earn a medal for a score of 90 or above.

SENIOR PARTICIPATION AWARD
The Senior Participation Award is designed to recognize the dedicated students whose commitment to concentrated and progressive effort in music study is demonstrated by their participation in TMTA and TMTA Student Affiliate activities. Students must be members of Student Affiliate in grades nine through twelve to be eligible. Points are earned through participation. Activities that earn points are as follows: Theory Tests, Composition Contest, Publication Contest, World of Music Test, Chamber Music (State Level), Ensemble, Festivities, Auditions, Recitals, MTNA Performance Competitions, and MTNA Compositions Contest. A plaque will be given to eligible graduating seniors. An additional award will be given to the top three or four students with the most participation points.

THELMA HEARN SCHOLARSHIP
The Thelma Hearn Memorial Scholarship Award judges Juniors or Seniors on performance. Monetary awards are given. This contest has repertoire requirements of three works from contrasting periods; students are allowed to enter in both their Junior and Senior years. This contest is in honor and in memory of beloved member Thelma Hearn.
